Desert Island Discs?

Working to music tonight. With that in mind, here are a handful of discs I could listen to on an endless loop and never get bored:

Nick Drake: Pink Moon and Bryter Layter

Belle & Sebastian: TigermilkIf You’re Feeling Sinister and The Boy With the Arab Strap

 Van Morrison: Astral Weeks

The Wild Colonials: Fruit of Life

Elliott Smith: XO

The Kinks: Something Else and Village Green Preservation Society

David Bowie: Hunky Dory

And you?

  1. This isn’t even really a hypothetical for me (well, except for the desert island part) because I tend to pick a disc or two and listen to it over and over until I get tired of it, which can literally be over a year. 2008 was roughly covered by Springsteen’s “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” The Killers’ “Hot Fuss,” and Drive-By Truckers’ “Decoration Day” (which might be a bit of a cheat because there are three very different singers on that record, and some days I’m only in the mood for one or two of them).

For the all-time rotation, I’d include some Fleetwood Mac (self titled, or “Rumors”), “Chet Baker Sings,” Coltrane’s “Giant Steps,” Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks”; and Barenaked Ladies’ “Disc One”. I resist listing any other Springsteen records because I’d end up listing them all, but I imagine I’d go with “Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ” to complement “Darkness.”

Hitting ‘submit’ now before I think of 100 others.

  2. Miles Davis – Kind of Blue
    Morphine – The Night
    Radiohead – Kid A
The Left of the Dial boxed set (is that cheating? Because I’ve had these in constant rotation since I bought the set three years ago)
DJ Shadow – The Private Press
    David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust
    Josh Rouse – 1972
