Pitch Consulting

PITCH CONSULTING

For some time now, I’ve assisted creators behind-the-scenes in refining and breaking down pitches for (generally) creator-owned projects. With that in mind, I’m expanding my efforts to make this service available to a wider range of creators.

In addition to pitching and publishing over a dozen original concepts to various publishers, I spent time at Image Comics as the PR & Marketing Coordinator, which allowed me first hand exposure to the acceptance process, on top of allowing me access to dozens of failed and successful pitches. As a writer with over fifteen years experience in creator-owned comics, my goal is to help creators better understand what constitutes a successful pitch, and be able to use this information moving forward in their careers.

THE SERVICE:

I’m offering to review, assess, edit and help write/rewrite pitches for creators who could use an outside perspective to help them get a better handle on things. This is open to established and aspiring creators. I would just ask that creators have the concept and story in place. The goal here is to help find and refine the hook, break the pitch down into a logical and digestible format, and essentially craft a “sellable” document.

The fee is a flat $100.

I’ll also share links to a handful of pitches of mine, which demonstrate variations on a “standard” pitch format.

If you’ve got something you’d like assistance with, please drop me a line at bclaymoore@gmail.com, with “Pitching” in the subject line.

Select Reviews:

“One of the best comic books of the year…Funny, grim, and poignant, The Whistling Skull is an awfully good time.” – Entertainment Weekly

Savage #1 is so well written you’ll find the pages without dinosaurs just as intriguing. This is efficient storytelling that’ll make you care and want more. What’s more savage, the boy in the opening pages fighting dinosaurs, or the excellent storytelling?” – AiPT! Reviews

“Overall, I believe that Battle Hymn serves as warning tale. It reminds me of Lincoln’s emancipation remarks, which I’m admittedly paraphrasing, that all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing. This book is iconic in its brutal handling of an aptly titled goodbye. Goodbye to an era of selfless golden deeds, which is a bold comment on the possible collapse of the American Dream: A+” – Thirteen Minutes

“The whole package (Hawaiian Dick) is carried off with a sense of wit and craft not often seen in genre comics and should charm both crime fiction and tiki lovers.” – Publisher’s Weekly
“(With Skulls & Bots) writer B. Clay Moore puts a heavy layer of cynicism on the surprisingly meaningful message of the 8-page story. The action is frantic and gory, despite Paul McCaffery’s cartoony style, and the compositional choice create a very effective feeling of depth.” – IGN
